We released our first Podi Scene film in October 2024. It was our way of documenting a surf story that felt true to us—one that explored the lives of Sri Lanka’s sea people through our journey to find a phantom wave, while weaving in an old tale of a princess who once trusted her life to the sea. Together, these stories reflect our roots and the deeper connection between our people and the ocean.

On islands like Sri Lanka, the ocean is more than a playground. It shapes culture, survival, and heritage. Podi Scene explores this enduring relationship and how surfing fits into a much older narrative

Unlike many surf films that look at Sri Lanka from the outside, Podi Scene centers local perspectives—highlighting environmental realities, changing coastlines, and the everyday experiences of sea-dependent communities.

Podi Scene Film

Podi Scene was envisioned years ago by Prithvi (Malla) Virasinghe and rallied together fellow surfers, friends, partners, neighbours, strangers, and local heroes—to make this film happen. Although he is credited as the director of the film, he was very much the tide that pulled all the boats.

Surf stories told by the people who live and surf these waves.
